Here’s a fantastically-good CHOCOLATE dessert we love!
BROWNIES WITH CHOCOLATE-CARAMEL-TOFFEE
Ingredients:
•1 (14 ounce) can of Carnation, sweetened condensed milk
•6 (1- ounce) Hershey’s semisweet chocolate squares chopped
•6 (1- ounce) Bakers bittersweet chocolate squares, chopped
•1 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, softened and divided
•1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar
•¾ cup granulated sugar
•1 teaspoon salt
•3 large eggs
•1 teaspoon vanilla extract
•3 cups all-purpose flour
•1 (8-ounce) package toffee bits (Health candy or other)
•½ cup hot caramel, Smucker’s ice-cream topping
Directions for making and baking brownies
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13×9-inch baking pan with aluminum foil(Reynolds works best).
Lightly spray foil with a non-stick cooking spray (I like Crisco for Baking).
2. In a medium pan, combine condensed milk, semisweet and bittersweet chocolate, plus 2 tablespoons butter.
Cook ingredients over low heat, stir constantly, until chocolate melts completely and mixture is smooth, thick liquid. Set chocolate aside.
3.In a large mixing bowl, combine sugars and 1 cup butter (softened). Beat at medium-high speed with a mixer until ingredients are fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, while beating well. Add vanilla, beat well.
4.In a medium mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Slowly, and evenly add to sugar mixture, beating until well combined.
Fold in chocolate mixture and toffee bits, stir until mixed. Pour batter into prepared baking dish.
Drizzle caramel over poured batter; gently swirl with a knife or spoon. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until center is cooked through (insert toothpick to test, if needed).
Allow dessert to cool and cut into 2 inch squares for serving. Brownies can be individually placed on flat, decorative cup cake liners, then arranged on a serving platter.
Baby shower desserts make great party favors too. You can wrap them individually in cellophane, and add a pretty string and gift tag. Desserts can be packaged as two, or more in little gift boxes too.
Yields approximately 2 dozen brownies.
